Ishikawa Mitsuie (石川光家)

Mitsuie ISHIKAWA (year of birth and death unknown) was a samurai who lived during the late Heian period.

Family line

His family lines were Yamato-Genji (Minamoto clan) and the Mutsu Ishikawa clan.

Career

Mitsuie was a samurai and established his base in Ishikawa sho, Oshu (Northern Honshu, the region encompassing Mutsu and Dewa provinces). His father was MINAMOTO no Arimitsu. His mother was a daughter of MINAMOTO no Yoshinari (the earliest ancestor of the Satake clan), the leader of Hitachi-Genji (Minamoto clan) who had strong power in the northern part of Hitachi Province. It is known that Mitsuie also kept in touch and cooperate with the Oshu-Fujiwara clan. Considering that, he is thought to have had at least high ability to conduct diplomacy.

Mitsuie's descendant, Akimitsu ISHIKAWA, fought against Masamune DATE in the Sengoku period, although he was Masamune's uncle, but he later became Masamune's vassal. His descendants served the Sendai Domain and received high salaries for generations.
